Habitat's A Brush With Kindness renovation for the Rene Stincer home at 1017 Eaton St. has gained quite a following. There is support from Old Island Restoration Foundation, the City of Key West, many neighbors and friends. Many people have come together to insure that Mr. Stincer has a safe, decent home.

A Brush With Kindness is gaining momentum in Key West with several different projects. This Habitat International program promotes minor repair and painting of homes, allowing income-qualified, elderly homeowners to continue living independently and securely in their homes.
A Brush with Kindness uses a holistic approach, assisting communities by revitalizing neighborhoods, one home at a time. A Brush with Kindness encourages connections within the community, and most importantly, helps preserve affordable housing for those who need it most. A Brush with Kindness depends on corporate and individual donors and the many volunteers who come out every Saturday to join this exciting community effort.
An elderly low income homeowner will be required to meet specific criteria in order to qualify for assistance through “A Brush with Kindness.” The model uses donated materials as much as possible and volunteer labor.
For information on partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Key West & Lower FL Keys, either as a contributor or as a volunteer, please call 305-294-9006 or email: info@habitatlowerkeys.org.

Sadowski Funds Affordable Housing
Your help is needed to ensure that Sadowski funds are used solely for affordable housing to support citizens in need in the State of Florida. The Sadowski fund is a dedicated trust fund for Affordable Housing in the State of Florida. Twenty years ago, Florida voters chose to substantially raise the rate for documentary stamps in order to support and assist lower income families in Florida with housing. Suitable and affordable housing for Florida's very low and low income population is a systematic need regardless of available housing stock or the State of Florida's economy. Tens of thousands of affordable housing units and jobs have been lost through the underfunding or re-designation of this revenue source. Last year alone, the entire $116 million that should have been used for housing were taken and re-appropriated as general revenue, leaving many Florida families in substandard or inadequate housing. We encourage you to contact your political leaders to voice your support of using the Sadowski funds for the purpose they were intended. You can help build it!
