(4/29/2023) A celebration of completion was recently held for our Moss Landing Development in Cudjoe Key. This affordable homeownership development, consisting of 16 townhomes, is in the final stages of construction with the final four homes nearing completion. Twelve families are already living in this new community, having completed the Habitat Homebuyer program and purchased their new homes over the past 2 years. The final four Habitat homebuyer families recently completed their 200-300 hours of “sweat equity” and the homeowner education classes required as part of the program and are ready to close on their new homes and move in.

The event on Saturday was also an occasion to honor Mark Moss, a beloved former executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Key West and Lower Florida Keys who passed away in 2018, and for whom the new development is named. Members of the Moss family came down for the event and were presented with an original painting by renowned local artist and Habitat homeowner, Abigail White.

Habitat for Humanity Partner Families purchase homes through no-profit, no-interest mortgages. In order to qualify to purchase a home, families must demonstrate a need for affordable housing, qualify for the loan, and be willing to partner with Habitat by completing home ownership courses and contributing 350 hours of sweat equity through work on their home or within the community.
